Getting to our region
LD Lines operate sailings from Portsmouth to Le Havre and Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen. Brittany Ferries also operates a fast ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, which takes just under 3 hours 30 minutes.
In addition, there are sailings from Portsmouth to St. Malo and Poole to Cherbourg (both Brittany), Portsmouth to Cherbourg and Caen (these routes now have the fast boats which do the trip in about 3 hours) Dover to Calais (P & O European Ferries), Poole to St. Malo and Cherbourg (Condor fast ferries), Newhaven to Dieppe and Dover to Calais (P&O Stena). Most ferry companies offer special deals to regular travellers and out of season.
The Channel Tunnel (via the M20) to Calais provides another fast route into France. Calais to our region is 6 hours drive by Autoroute, Périphérique (around Paris) Autoroute via Chartres to Le Mans and the new A85 Autoroute to Saumur.
The Eurostar train service from London Waterloo gives you direct access to our region. By changing at Lille, it is possible to get to Tours or Saumur in around 6 hours.
By air there are many flights by British Airways, British Midland and Air France to Paris. From Paris, take the super fast TGV train to Angers or Tours. From Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport you can take the TGV direct to Tours in 1 hour 34 minutes. The train station is located in the airport.
Brit Air and British Airways have daily flights from London Gatwick to Nantes, a major international airport. Ryanair operate daily flights from London (Stansted) to Tours. All the major car hire companies have desks at the airports to meet most flights.
